Seaside Seabird Sanctuary

The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3)non-profit who’s mission is the rescue and rehabilitation of sick/injured native wild birds with the hope of releasing them back into the wild, all done through the incredible specially trained staff and volunteers. It’s a tropical home to some incredible critters whose stories truly speak volumes.

Just one of our new inspiring friends at the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary is Rufous, the eastern screech owl. This little guy was rescued in 2016 and deemed non-releasable due to neurological challenges, but that did not stop him from becoming the first avian ambassador for the sanctuary’s community outreach program that helps educate about environmental awareness and the plight of birds like Rufous. Rufous is now retired from the outreach program and living his best, retired, spoiled life at the sanctuary.

We were able to share 300 lbs of sand used as natural substrate and enrichment, along with a monetary donation to help the incredible staff and volunteers continue to provide the best care for all the special needs residents and patients passing through the hospital.

We highly recommend visiting the Sanctuary - it’s free, inspiring, and a great opportunity to meet some rare species up close.

If you’d like to support the sanctuary, you can donate directly on their website or drop off some daily use items they’re always in need of:

  • Laundry detergent (pods preferred)

  • Bleach

  • Paper towels

  • Dawn soap

  • Trash bags

  • Apples, grapes, & blueberries

  • Large or medium towels

*If you encounter an injured bird, call Seaside’s Injured Bird Rescue Hotline at 727-391-6211 ext. 1 to report a possible sick or injured bird.
